Fiesta Key RV Resort – One of Our Favorite Places to Camp in the Florida Keys!

If you’ve ever dreamed of waking up surrounded by turquoise waters, soaking in the sun, and sipping a drink with ocean views all from the comfort of your RV setup… you’ll LOVE our favorite Florida Keys camping spot: Fiesta Key RV Resort & Marina.

This Thousand Trails property is truly something special in the Florida Keys — and yes, it’s technically on its own island! We first stayed here way back in 2020 and the memories still stick with us. From the sunsets to the salty breeze and everything in between, Fiesta Key is one of those magical places that makes RV life feel like a tropical dream.

Here’s why we loved it — and why it should be on your must-visit list if you’re planning a Florida Keys RV adventure.

First Things First: What’s So Special About the Florida Keys?

The Florida Keys are unlike anywhere else in the continental U.S. Picture a 120-mile stretch of islands connected by the iconic Overseas Highway, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. This little slice of paradise starts in Key Largo and ends at the quirky and colorful Key West.

Every island in the chain has its own personality. Islamorada is known for its sportfishing and artsy vibe, Marathon is great for families and boaters, and Key West… well, it’s a category all on its own. Along the way, you’ll find state parks, snorkel tours, seafood shacks, and some of the most scenic drives in the country.

Camping in the Keys – What to Know Before You Go

Florida RV camping is epic, and in a place like the Keys — where the views are the whole point — it’s a great way to experience the area, but there are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip.

On the plus side:

  • It’s much cheaper than staying in hotels (especially during winter).
  • You get front-row seats to some of the best sunrises and sunsets.
  • There’s something magical about sipping your morning coffee outside with the ocean breeze around you.

That said, the Keys are popular, and campgrounds here are limited. Most spots book up well in advance — especially during snowbird season (roughly November through April). Rates can also be higher than mainland Florida parks, so be prepared to budget a little more if you’re staying for a while.

And yes, the summer heat and bugs are real — but if you’re coming for the winter sunshine, you’re in for a treat.

So… Where Is Fiesta Key RV Resort?

Fiesta Key is located smack in the middle of the Keys, on a private 28-acre island off Long Key. It’s about an hour from Key Largo and an hour and a half from Key West — making it the perfect home base for exploring both directions.

It’s right on the Overseas Highway (US 1), but once you turn into the resort, you feel like you’ve entered your own peaceful, palm-dotted escape. You’re just minutes from Long Key State Park and close enough to grab lunch in Islamorada or take a scenic drive down to Bahia Honda or Key West for the day.

A Quick Overview of the Resort

Fiesta Key RV Resort has hundreds of RV sites, and most of them are just steps from the water. Some even have waterfront views right from your rig! Whether you’ve got a big Class A or a small travel trailer, they can accommodate a variety of setups. There are both pull-through and back-in sites, plus they offer some cute waterfront cottages for those traveling without an RV.

When we visited, we stayed in our RV but took a peek at the cottages, and they looked like a great option if you’re traveling with family or meeting up with friends who don’t have their own camper.

What Makes Fiesta Key Special?

This resort has all the amenities you’d expect from a big Thousand Trails location, but what really sets it apart is the setting. You’re surrounded by water on all sides — which means the sunsets here are next level. We found ourselves stopping everything in the evening just to grab a drink and watch the sky light up in pinks and oranges.

And here’s something extra special: you can actually catch the sunrise on one side of the island and the sunset on the other. It’s absolutely magical — like getting front-row seats to nature’s best shows, twice a day.

The best part? You really don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to. Between the food, the views, the marina, and all the activities, you’ve got everything you need right on-site. But if you do want to explore, the location is perfectly central in the Keys, so you can venture out without committing to a huge drive.

Want some easy day trip ideas? You can pop over to Islamorada for a morning of paddleboarding or visit the Florida Keys Brewing Co. for fun local vibes and live music. Or spend a full day in Marathon exploring the Turtle Hospital, Sombrero Beach, or snorkeling at Bahia Honda State Park — all without the long trek to Key West.

Resort Highlights That Made Our Stay So Easy

Here’s a peek at some of the standout features we loved:

  • Swimming pool + hot tub: Clean, spacious, and perfect for an afternoon cool-down or a relaxing soak.
  • On-site marina: If you’re bringing a boat or want to rent one, the marina makes it easy to get out on the water for fishing or exploring. And the best part? You can bring your catch back and cook it up for dinner — nothing beats a fresh, self-caught seafood meal enjoyed with an ocean breeze and a view.
  • Waterfront restaurant: We loved having a casual place to grab food and drinks without leaving the resort. Nothing fancy — just good eats and tropical vibes.
  • Kayaking and water sports: Some people brought their own kayaks and paddleboards; others rented locally. The resort also sells and rents out scuba gear, making it super easy to dive right into the underwater adventures the Keys are famous for. They even have a convenient snorkeling area right off their sandy beach with a seawall and ladder – so you can pop right in and not have to swim far to see coral and fish! This was a huge plus for me!
  • Pet-friendly: Our dog, Hana, was welcomed here, and there were plenty of open areas to walk and sniff. (Always a win!) There are some great green spaces where dogs can run and play (even an area to play in the water), and the staff were absolutely lovely with her — even giving her treats every day. She was living her best vacation life!
  • Social and seasonal activities: From bingo to karaoke nights, there’s usually something happening to bring people together — especially during the winter months.

Why We Still Rave About Fiesta Key Years Later

Even after all these years, we still talk about Fiesta Key as one of our favorite RV destinations. Part of it is the setting — it really does feel like you’re camping on a tropical island. But it’s also the atmosphere. Everyone we met was friendly, relaxed, and just happy to be there.

It’s not the cheapest place to stay, but the experience makes it worth it. The combination of amenities, location, and views is hard to beat. We loved walking the paths around the property at sunset, chatting with fellow travelers, and just soaking in the laid-back Keys lifestyle.

Would We Stay At Fiesta Keys RV Resort Again? (Absolutely!)

If you’re planning a Florida Keys road trip and want a camping experience that feels a little bit like paradise, we highly recommend Fiesta Key RV Resort. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and perfectly placed to explore all that the Keys have to offer.
