5 Cheap Honeymoon Destinations or Romantic Weekend Getaways

Whether you are married and looking for an inexpensive romantic getaway, or you are a soon-to-be newlywed, check out our top picks for cheap honeymoon destinations here in the US.  We chose these destinations because they are perfect for couples with a variety of interests and they are affordable options, especially for people living in different regions who are looking to travel closer to home.

1. Key West, Florida for Beach Lovers

A visit to Key West Florida is our top pick for couples looking to combine some fun in the sun with beautiful beaches, exciting outdoor activities…and some funky margarita-drinking and musical goodness.  Josh and I actually got married in Key West, but we can honestly say this is an awesome destination for just a weekend getaway or even a honeymoon.

The great thing about Key West is that it’s a beautiful tropical island that you can technically drive a car to.  However, the easiest way for most people to arrive in Key West is by flying.  When doing a quick search on FlightHub, I was able to find roundtrip tickets between New York and Key West in February for $280.

What we especially love about Key West is the funky and carefree vibe of the city. Walking around Duval street to do a bit of shopping, eating, and drinking is always fun any time of the day.  But going at night you will find a number of bars have live music to enjoy.

Besides all the history in Key West, of course there are the gorgeous white sandy beaches and crystal blue water.  Take a sunset cruise on a catamaran or go over to Dry Tortugas National Park – the most remote national park in the USA!

2. Las Vegas, Nevada for Fun Lovers

What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas…but that doesn’t mean that just because you and your partner can’t enjoy the fun too!  Vegas is like Disneyland for grow-ups and what we love most about it is that you can have basically any kind of vacation you want.

If you are looking for a party and dancing all night long, well of course you can find that in Vegas!  However, many travelers overlook the fact that you can have an absolutely lovely and romantic vacation too.  Many of the grand hotels on the Strip have luxurious spas – even if you aren’t staying there you can make a reservation for an afternoon of pampering. For an even cheaper activity, how about an evening up on top of the Eiffel Tower…without having to fly to Paris!

Another reason to like Vegas is the sheer variety of amazing restaurants where you can dine out, and it’s also home to more Cirque de Soleil shows than any other city in the world!  With a little research, it’s possible to score a great deal on show tickets – especially last minute!

3. Sonoma, California For Wine Lovers

While Napa Valley is the most popular area for wine enthusiasts visiting northern California, the nearby town of Sonoma (just on the other side of the valley from Napa) is a more affordable option that has just as much charm and things to do.

Sonoma is full of activities for those who enjoy learning about and sampling wine, as well as some great dining options as well.  It’s a quick drive from the San Francisco area and major airports as well.

The key difference between Napa and Sonoma is the more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere that you will find in Sonoma.  There are nature trails, hiking, kayaking, and you can even take a wine tour on a bike!   Sonoma is a great destination for couples who enjoy wine as well as a bit of adventure out in the countryside.

4. Gatlinburg, Tennessee For Mountain Lovers

Located right next to the entrance of the most popular national park in the USA, Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a romantic destination perfect for those who love the mountains.  Visitors flock to this region to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park for driving, hiking, and riding – especially in the Fall months when the changing colors are breathtaking!

The very best way to experience this area on a romantic getaway is to rent a cozy cabin up in the mountains. Vacation rentals are the thing here – and you can easily find your own cabin to rent with private hot tubs and views out over the mountains.  So grab yourself a glass of your favorite beverage, and after a long day of exploring the area just kick back and relax with your special someone.

5. San Antonio, Texas for Food Lovers

There’s more to San Antonio than just the famous Riverwalk and infamous Alamo.  This town has an amazing collection of culinary treats – from Tex-Mex to Barbecue and just about everything in between!

Foodie couples will really enjoy spending a weekend in San Antonio because they can combine the history and charm of this Texas city with splendid flavors from a wide variety of restaurants.  Taking a food tour of San Antonio is a great way to experience all the savory selections in San Antonio and have some laughs with new friends.
