We love sharing our photos during our travels around the world on our Peanuts or Pretzels Instagram account. In 2014 we began to use Instagram more and more. And we have loved the interaction from our followers and being able to share special travel moments with everyone. Here are some of the most favored and most commented on photos from our Instagram account 2014. We take pride in only posting photos from our iPhones and not doctoring up our photos, because we want our followers to see exactly what we see. So without any further ado, here is our Year in Instagram Review!
Our Year in Instagram Review (2014)
* Top photos are in no particular order
1. Visiting Geocaching HQ in Seattle, Washington
We have always wanted to visit the Geocaching Headquarters in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. As we drove across the country to start our RTW Journey we made a special trip to Seattle for the Geocaching Block Party.
2. Exploring Temples in Chiang Mai, Thailand
The lighting was perfect on this day in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This might be one of my favorites of the year posted on Instagram. Chiang Mai, Thailand was amazing and we really loved spending more than a month living like a local here.
3. Geocaching 101 on Better Mornings Atlanta
On the day we left to go on this around the world journey, we were excited to appear on live TV to explain our favorite travel hobby of Geocaching. It was called Geocaching 101 with Peanuts or Pretzels on Good Morning Atlanta. This was our first on the air interview and it was a great experience. Being live TV, the show is fast! So we had to be quick in snapping this picture between segments, with the help of the staff.
4. Our First Geocache Discovery in Maui, Hawaii
We love our geocaches with a view, and our first find on Maui had a view that was was nothing short of amazing. Finding this cache was a way to get introduced to geocaching on the island. We were able to watch the surfers surf below while grabbing this cache. Maui left us speechless.
5. Sunrise over the Old City of Sukhothai, Thailand
We love our sunrises and have seen some pretty amazing ones during our travels. We found another beautiful one just recently, rising up over the Old City of Sukhothai, Thailand. This beautiful untouched Old City is a stop that should not be overlooked while visiting Thailand.
6. Riding our Motorbike Around Chiang Mai, Thailand
It was great getting to feel more like a local while living and working in Chiang Mai. The motorbike gave us so much freedom to go anywhere we wanted to. It felt as though we were a part of a biker gang riding around Chiang Mai, Thailand. With our trusty bike, we were able to go out and explore the countryside and see some of Thailand that not everyone gets to experience.
7. Talking to Mom via Skype
Having the ability to Skype with our friends and family make being half way around the world so much easier. It was tricky to get my 71 year old mom to understand the importance of Skype let alone use it. But luckily, she has gotten the hang of it and we have been able to talk more and more lately. Thank you technology!
8. Free Hugs in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Everyone can use a free hug. The timing of this guy riding around one of the main gates in Chiang Mai, Thailand was well needed. This was the day of the hostage situation in Sydney, Australia. And as you can see, there were lots of people taking him up on his offer for a free hug.
9. Signing a Geocaching Logbook in Mt. Cook National Park, New Zealand
Another Geocache with a view! We found this one while out exploring Mt. Cook National Park in New Zealand. Mt. Cook is famous in New Zealand because it is the tallest mountain, and because the famous mountaineer, Sir Edmond Hillary, used this range to practice for his famous and historic climb up Mt. Everest.
10. Boarding an Airplane to KL
Here I am boarding an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We had just finished our TEFL Certification on Koh Samui, Thailand and needed to make a border run. It’s not often you get to walk on a runway.
11. Finding REALLY GOOD Mexican Food in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chang beer and Mexican food make for a great combo in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Sometimes you have to get a break from the noodles and rice. And on this day we stumbled across a great Tex-Mex restaurant with awesome Mexican food. We LOVE Mexican food, and good Mexican food is a very rare find in Asia. So we were not only surprised by this place, but oh so satisfied!
12. Geocaching Around Sukhothai, Thailand
We stumbled across one of the best Geocaching Geo-Tours we have ever done in Sukhothai, Thailand. Someone placed geocaches at all of the Wats (Temples) located around Sukhothai. This made for a fun couple of days exploring the Old City. We love our history and explorations, especially when we can discover geocaches with a backdrop like this one.
13. Playing Santa Claus in Guangzhou, China
One of the most unexpected experiences in my life ended up being one of the most memorable experiences of my life. My first day on the job with my new school in Guangzhou, China ended up with me playing the big jolly man for Christmas. I got to go around and deliver Christmas presents to my new students. Who would have thought that I would be playing Santa in China.
14. Where is the Road Going to Take Us?
Here is a picture of Liz, all packed up heading to the bus station in Sukothai, Thailand; ultimately on our way to our new home in Guangzhou, China.
Thanks for following and we look forward to more great Instagram photos in 2015!
