Mexico – Travel Guide

Explore This Travel Guide to Mexico

Mexico is one of the most popular tourist destinations for people living in North America, as well as other parts of the world. And the Yucatan, in particular, is one of the hottest parts of Mexico that tourists enjoy visiting.

The Yucatan is loaded with world-class resorts, gorgeous beaches, and tourist activities — such as scuba diving, snorkeling, caving, etc. But the area is also home to quaint villages, colonial towns, ancient ruins and incredible food. In addition, the Yucatan is still considered a safe area for tourists to visit.

** While we have visited other parts of Mexico, this guide focuses on the Yucatan.

Top Yucatan, Mexico Experiences

The culture of Mexico is vibrant and rooted into every aspect of life.  A visit to this wonderful country is a feast for your senses from the rich colors, the tasty cuisine, the white sandy beaches, to the age-old artifacts.

The Yucatan peninsula is a fantastic place to spend some time, at least a week if your vacation allows.  While Cancun is popular (and a great place to fly in and out of) we highly recommend that you get out of the city to explore other areas.  Valladolid was one of our favorite colonial towns, and is sadly skipped by most tourists who rush by it to visit the famous Chichen Itza ruins!  Speaking of Chichen Itza, visiting this site is a must – but if you want a unique experience, actually stay on the property at the amazing Mayaland Resort!

If you want to actually climb an old pyramid, then you can’t do that at Chichen Itza…but you can do it at Coba (just south toward Tulum).  While Tulum’s ruins are picturesque, we fell in love with the nearby areas of Akumal & Pa Mul for scuba diving and seeing the turtles hatch (we totally saved a baby who hatched and was going to fall in the pool!).

Another must-see and do is swimming in the magnificent cenotes and if you want some adventure, check out a whole underground river tour at Rio Secreto (that tour was AMAZING!!!)!
